The Nigerian Army has reported that its efforts to combat oil theft in the Niger Delta region have led to a significant reduction in illegal activities, increased oil production, and supported the country’s economic recovery. Brigadier General Jafaar Ibrahim, Commander of the 2 Brigade, shared this information during a social event at the Military Cantonment in Mbiokporo, Nsit-Ibom Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State. He highlighted that ongoing operations have improved security in the state and reinstated trust among the residents. The brigade remains committed to its duties in collaboration with other security agencies to maintain peace in Akwa Ibom State. Operations like Delta Safe Joint Task Force South-South (Sector 4) and Thunder have successfully disrupted criminal activities in the area. Anti-bunkering operations have significantly reduced oil theft and contributed to the nation’s economic progress. Retired General Godwin Umo, as the Special Guest of Honour, explained the significance of the event known as WASA in fostering camaraderie and recognizing accomplishments within the military. The celebration included the honoring of outstanding personnel and performances showcasing diverse cultural traditions from across the country.
