There is a forthcoming change in leadership at the Edo State House of Assembly as the All Progressives Congress has officially notified the Assembly of its new majority status.
Speaker Blessing Agbebaku confirmed the receipt of a letter from the APC on Tuesday, indicating the party’s increased membership due to the defection of four lawmakers from the Peoples Democratic Party.
Although the content of the letter was not disclosed, it signifies a significant political shift within the House.
The four PDP lawmakers who crossed over to the APC are now part of the new majority.
Following these defections, the APC now holds 13 seats, surpassing the PDP’s 11 seats while the Labour Party lost its only representative to the APC.
The communication from the APC officially establishes their majority status in the Edo State House of Assembly and hints at forthcoming actions to reflect this change.
Speaker Agbebaku acknowledged the APC’s majority position and expressed good wishes to the defected lawmakers.
He also mentioned the expectation of another letter from the APC to nominate principal officers, indicating further adjustments in the House’s leadership.
