The ongoing leadership crisis within the All Progressives Grand Alliance has taken a new twist as APGA National Chairman Sly Ezeokenwa issued a warning to the party’s founding chairman, Chief Chekwas Okorie, to stay away from Anambra State Governor, Prof. Charles Soludo. Okorie had previously threatened to penalize Soludo for not recognizing and aligning with the factional chairman, Edozie Njoku.
Ezeokenwa, leading the faction loyal to Soludo, refuted Okorie’s claims, suggesting that Okorie’s true intentions were to extort the governor. He emphasized that Okorie and his group ceased to be APGA members in 2007 and accused them of attempting to manipulate Soludo into releasing state funds through blackmail.
During a press conference in Abuja, Ezeokenwa clarified the situation, highlighting Okorie’s expulsion from APGA in the early 2000s and his subsequent formation of another political party which was later deregistered. He expressed concerns that the Independent National Electoral Commission may be biased towards the Njoku-led faction, casting doubts on their legitimacy as the party’s leadership.
Ezeokenwa also questioned the recognition of Njoku as APGA chairman by INEC, emphasizing that Njoku is considered an imposter by his faction. He expressed hope that the judiciary would uphold the rule of law in the matter, asserting that Njoku had voluntarily left APGA in 2007.
