The Super Eagles’ recent addition to the team, Tolu Arokodare, shared the reason behind his emotional reaction following his debut in Nigeria’s 2-0 win against Rwanda during the 2026 World Cup qualifier in Kigali.
Arokodare, who was brought in as a substitute for Victor Osimhen towards the end of the game, expressed his gratitude towards his teammate and role model, Osimhen, which moved him to tears after the match.
The 24-year-old striker credited Osimhen for his significant impact on his career, explaining that their embrace led to his emotional response in the dressing room.
Following the victory over Rwanda, Nigeria climbed to the fourth spot in Group C standings, accumulating six points from five matches, trailing behind South Africa, Benin, and Rwanda.
As the upcoming match against Zimbabwe is crucial for the Super Eagles, Arokodare aims to contribute to securing a win, enhancing the team’s chances of qualifying for the 2026 World Cup and potentially scoring his first goal for the national team.
