Aviation workers may disrupt flight Monday, allege assault by Customs

The aviation unions have issued a stern warning to shut down airports across the country from March 31 if a customs officer involved in an assault on the director of aviation security at the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria is not removed. The National Union of Air Transport Employees, the Air Transport Services Senior Staff Association of Nigeria, and the Association of Nigeria Aviation Professionals jointly expressed their condemnation of the assaults on FAAN personnel and demanded a reduction in the number of customs officers in civil aviation to align with international standards. The unions emphasized the need for a framework of mutual respect and safety for FAAN staff, threatening a workforce withdrawal from airports if their demands are not met by the specified date in 2025. On the other hand, a Customs spokesperson attributed the conflict between FAAN officials and NCS officers to a misunderstanding regarding equipment movements and seating arrangements.
