A group of unidentified attackers targeted the home of the Chairman of the Malumfashi Local Government Area in Katsina State on Tuesday evening, resulting in the tragic death of a police officer.
The officer, identified as Shamsudeen Lawal, was shot during the incident and unfortunately succumbed to his injuries at a nearby hospital where he was promptly taken for medical attention.
According to the state Police Public Relations Officer, Abubakar Sadiq, Lawal was shot and did not survive despite efforts to save him at the hospital.
“Yes, this unfortunate event occurred yesterday [Tuesday], and our team responded swiftly to the scene. The officer was rushed to the hospital but, unfortunately, he did not make it,” said Sadiq.
“We have apprehended three suspects believed to be linked to the attack, and we will provide updates as the investigation progresses,” he added.
At the time of reporting, it remained unclear if there were other casualties. However, security personnel successfully prevented the assailants from gaining entry into the residence.
An eyewitness, speaking anonymously, mentioned that the chairman and his family were present during the attack.
