In Kaduna State, a well-known bandit leader, Kachalla Sharme, along with several other bandits, was killed in a violent clash between rival groups. The conflict took place in the Rijana and Kaso Forests, spanning across different local government areas. The clash resulted in the death of Sharme and two other bandits, while five others sustained severe injuries.
Sharme’s gang was notorious for carrying out various criminal activities, including attacks, killings, and kidnappings in Kaduna and neighboring states. One notable incident attributed to Sharme’s gang was the abduction of 121 students from a school in Kujama. Security forces had been pursuing Sharme for some time, and his demise was considered a significant success in the battle against banditry in the region, particularly in the North-West.
The Kaduna State government emphasized the importance of remaining vigilant in areas like Rijana, Kaso, Kasarami, Jaka da-Rabi, Kajuru, and Dutse. They urged residents not to provide aid to individuals seeking treatment for gunshot wounds but instead to report any suspicious activity to the nearest security forces or contact the Kaduna State Security Operations Room promptly.
