The Bauchi State Governor has given the green light for the recruitment of 3,000 teachers to be assigned to Junior and Senior secondary schools in the state. This initiative is part of the AGILE project’s requirements. The Project Coordinator, Ali Gar, announced this during a meeting with stakeholders from Bauchi Local Government regarding the Girls Scholarship Programme.
Out of the 3,000 teachers, 2,000 will be sent to Junior secondary schools, while the remaining 1,000 will be allocated to Senior secondary schools. This action aims to reduce the teacher-student ratio gap in the benefiting schools. Gar clarified that the teachers will be on the state government’s payroll and not the AGILE Project’s.
Additionally, the AGILE Project will start providing Conditional Cash Transfers to approximately 9,000 girls enrolled as beneficiaries. The cash transfer scheme involves a registration fee of N15,000 and a stipend of N20,000 for the first term. Each beneficiary will receive N10,000 for the second and third terms with a requirement of 75% attendance.
Gar mentioned that ICT facilities and skills acquisition tools have been acquired for the project. Despite capturing only 9,000 out of the 20,250 targeted beneficiaries in the past ten weeks, efforts are ongoing to reach more. Stakeholders are urged to monitor teachers to ensure they fulfill their duties effectively.
The Executive Chairman of Bauchi Local Government praised the AGILE technical team for their commitment to the project’s execution. He expressed confidence in the School Based Management Committee members’ ability to carry out their responsibilities successfully.
