The head of the All Progressives Congress in Rivers State, criticized the 27 lawmakers of the State House of Assembly for denying their defection from the Peoples Democratic Party to the APC. He emphasized that they openly defected and cannot now deny their membership. The chairman made these remarks during a news briefing in Port Harcourt, responding to recent claims by another individual. A court ruling dismissing a suit against the lawmakers highlighted the timing of the legal action.
The APC Chairman reinstated after a court ruling expressed disappointment at the lawmakers’ denial, emphasizing that they had publicly defected and were even welcomed into the party. He stated that the lawmakers would face disciplinary action after the local government election in October 2024, which the APC plans to participate in fully.
The chairman confirmed that the party is prepared for the upcoming local elections, with candidates already screened and cleared. He highlighted the court’s ruling recognizing him as the legitimate chairman and vowed to take legal action against any unauthorized actions by the previous caretaker committee leader. The chairman praised the state governor for ensuring a fair electoral process for all parties in the upcoming elections.
