The head coach of the Benin Republic national team and former Super Eagles coach, Genort Rohr, aims to maintain their position at the top of the 2026 World Cup qualifying Group C as they approach match-days five and six. The Benin Republic team is currently tied for the lead in the group, alongside Nigeria, with seven points each, closely following South Africa and Rwanda on goal difference.
Rohr’s team is set to play against Zimbabwe in Durban, South Africa for their fifth match of the series, followed by a game against South Africa in Abidjan. Rohr expressed surprise at his team’s current standing but is optimistic about their chances of remaining at the top after the upcoming matches.
Having won two matches, including a victory against Nigeria, and drawing one while losing one, Rohr’s team is in a good position. On the other hand, Nigeria is currently in fifth place in the group with only three points, yet to secure a win in the series.
Looking ahead, the Super Eagles, under new coach Eric Chelle, will compete against Rwanda in Kigali and have a home fixture against Zimbabwe in Uyo. Both teams are gearing up for crucial matches as they aim to secure their positions in the group standings.
