A well-known music critic and journalist recently celebrated his 88th birthday at Quintessence Gallery in Ikoyi, Lagos over the weekend. The gathering drew music industry professionals from various locations to honor the iconic figure who has had a significant impact as a DJ, music manager, broadcaster, and columnist.
During the event, the honoree, who once managed the legendary Afrobeat pioneer, Fela Anikulapo-Kuti, shared insights into his successful career. He expressed gratitude for the event organized in his honor and highlighted his joy in influencing and shaping lives over the years.
In recognition of his contributions, the revered music critic was presented with a Lifetime Achievement Award by the National Council of Arts and Culture. The event organizer explained that the decision to celebrate the honoree was motivated by the desire to honor his nearly 90 years of impactful work and ensure that his legacy is acknowledged.
The Managing Director of Quintessence Nigeria Limited also expressed the gallery’s support for the event, emphasizing their commitment to showcasing African art, craft, and culture. He praised the honoree’s immense influence on the Nigerian music scene, citing his role in mentoring and guiding numerous successful young artists.
