Biden announces $770 one-time payment for California fire victims

United States President recently announced a federal aid package of $770 for victims of the devastating wildfires in Los Angeles County, which have been among the worst in the state’s history. The President assured that the government would cover all disaster response costs for the next six months. The aid is intended to assist victims in purchasing essential items such as water, baby formula, and prescriptions. The federal government has already distributed nearly $5.1 million in immediate aid, with victims receiving a one-time payment of $770 each.

Furthermore, FEMA has reported that over 33,000 residents have registered for disaster assistance. The President emphasized the need for Congress to provide funding, stating that the recovery efforts in Los Angeles County will require tens of billions of dollars. The total damage and economic loss from the wildfires are estimated to be between $250 billion and $275 billion, surpassing previous natural disasters like Hurricane Helene and the Maui, Hawaii fires in terms of cost.
