The Arewa Renaissance Group has issued a caution against the threats made by a coalition of Northern groups to block federal highways in response to the suspension of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan. The Arewa group believes that such actions will exacerbate the hardships faced by ordinary Nigerians.
The coalition had declared its intention to disrupt major roads unless the Senate reversed Akpoti-Uduaghan’s suspension. In response, the Arewa group criticized this move, labeling it as irresponsible and an effort to manipulate public opinion for personal political gain.
In a statement, Dr. Mustapha Ahmad, the spokesperson for the ARG, expressed disapproval of the coalition’s proposal for road blockades, highlighting that it would further impede economic activities and worsen the challenges experienced by millions of Nigerians.
The ARG emphasized the importance of resolving political grievances through dialogue rather than resorting to acts of economic disruption. They stressed that using ordinary citizens as pawns in political conflicts is unacceptable and that blocking highways is not a solution but rather a punishment for innocent individuals unrelated to the disputes.
The group called on all stakeholders to prioritize national stability and avoid actions that could escalate tensions and deepen economic difficulties. They stated that the primary victims of these threats are the vulnerable traders, transporters, and workers who rely on open roads for their livelihoods. The ARG emphasized that Nigerians deserve relief, not additional hardship.
