Boboye returns to Akwa United

A successful coach with two Nigeria Premier Football League titles, Kennedy Boboye, has returned to Akwa United for the remainder of the season after leaving Sunshine Stars a couple of months ago, as reported by Sports Extra.

The 2021 NPFL champions officially announced Boboye’s reappointment on Monday following speculations about his return.

The club confirmed the mid-season hiring of Boboye, who previously secured the NPFL title with them in 2021, signing the agreement on Monday. He is set to start working with the team later this week.

Boboye, a coach from Ondo, will take over from Mohammed Babaganaru, who departed in December, leaving the team struggling in the relegation zone.

Having previously guided Akwa United to a league victory in 2021, Boboye faces the task of helping the team avoid relegation in the current NPFL season.

The Promise Keepers are currently positioned 19th in the standings with 19 points from 19 matches, having won five games, drawn four, and lost 10.

Boboye is one of the four coaches who exited their positions in the first half of the season, but he is the second coach to secure a new role before the league’s second half, following Stanley Eguma, who took over at Enyimba.
