The call for action has been made to President Bola Tinubu by the Nigerian Human Rights Community concerning the death threats directed at Folakemi, the daughter of renowned human rights lawyer, Femi Falana. The group emphasized that any harm towards Falana is an assault on the civil rights movement in Nigeria, recognizing him as a pivotal figure in the country’s human rights advocacy.
In a recently released statement by a representative of the group, Taiwo Adeleye, the NIHRCO labeled the threat as a significant challenge to the nation, urging the president to actively address the situation and lead efforts to identify those responsible for threatening Falana’s daughter.
This plea follows a series of events revolving around accusations and legal actions involving alleged defamation of Falana and his son, Falz, amidst a controversial scandal involving popular crossdresser, Idris Okuneye, also known as Bobrisky.
Martins Otse, also known as VeryDarkMan, shared a recorded call implicating Falana in a supposed request for N10 million to secure a presidential pardon for Bobrisky. Subsequently, VeryDarkMan issued an apology to Falana, retracting his claims and expressing doubt regarding the lawyer’s involvement in the bribery allegations.
NIHRCO has urged President Bola Tinubu to uncover the individuals behind the death threats towards Femi Falana’s daughter. The group stands in solidarity with Falana during this challenging time, emphasizing the need to identify and hold accountable those responsible for the threats.
The group cautioned the public against deceitful individuals posing as protectors of vulnerable citizens, highlighting the prevalence of professional blackmailers operating as agents of the state. They stressed that any harm towards Falana or his family would be an attack on the civil rights movement in Nigeria and emphasized the importance of unveiling the perpetrators of the threatening messages.
