The Minister of Interior has expressed determination to bring about reform within the Nigerian Correctional Service. This decision follows recent allegations made in a widely circulated audio recording. The recording, shared by a social media user, included claims made by a popular figure stating that special arrangements were made for them to serve their sentence in a private apartment.
In response to these allegations, the minister swiftly ordered an investigation into the matter, resulting in the suspension of some correctional service officers. During the inauguration of the investigative committee, the minister emphasized the importance of a comprehensive approach to uncover any underlying issues within the service.
The committee’s mandate includes looking into allegations of corruption, mistreatment of inmates, and other related concerns. The minister stressed the need for a thorough and transparent investigation, ensuring that all findings are made public. He made it clear that no one, regardless of their position, would be protected from scrutiny.
