Bolaji claims gold at int’l para badminton tourney

Eniola Bolaji, a Paralympic bronze medallist, achieved a significant milestone by winning gold at the Egypt Para Badminton International 2025. Bolaji secured victory in the women’s SL3 final by defeating Sweden’s Hillevi Salomonsson with a score of 2-0 (21-1, 21-2), demonstrating her dominance in the competition.

Throughout the tournament, Bolaji displayed her skill by defeating opponents such as Shahinda Mohamed (21-7, 21-2), Basma Nabil-Fawzy (21-6, 21-4), and Elizabeth Puma (21-2, 21-4) with straight-set wins in earlier rounds.

Having participated in 10 international championships in the last two years, Bolaji has emerged victorious in all, establishing herself as a formidable presence in Para Badminton, according to the Badminton World Federation.

Francis Orbih, President of the Badminton Federation of Nigeria, commended Bolaji’s accomplishment, emphasizing its importance for Nigerian sports.

Orbih praised Bolaji’s success, referring to her as a national treasure and global icon for her consistent achievements. He also announced the federation’s plans to host top-tier events, including the Para Badminton International Championship and the All Africa Para Badminton Championship in Abia State later this year.

Orbih expressed the federation’s dedication to upholding high standards and delivering successful tournaments in collaboration with Abia State.
