CHAN: Ogunmodede opens door for more NPFL stars

The interim coach of the Nigerian national team, Daniel Ogunmodede, expressed his willingness to consider more players from the Nigeria Premier Football League for the upcoming African Nations Championship in 2025. The tournament is scheduled to take place in Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda from February 1 to 28.

Ogunmodede, alongside Rangers International coach Fidelis Ilechukwu, successfully guided Nigeria to qualify for the championship after a 3-1 aggregate victory over Ghana. Following a goalless draw in Accra, Nigeria secured their spot in the tournament with a win in Uyo.

After conducting two player selection phases in Abuja, Ogunmodede emphasized the ongoing evaluation of players for the tournament. He highlighted the importance of competition and performance, stating that players who excel in their clubs will have the opportunity to join the national squad.

As the championship approaches, Ogunmodede is optimistic about opening the team’s camp soon, aligning with the Nigeria Football Federation’s commitment to early preparations. The NFF president emphasized the importance of thorough preparations to enhance Nigeria’s competitiveness in international tournaments.

Despite Nigeria’s previous third-place finish in 2014 and a loss in the final in 2018, the team aims to pursue success in the upcoming African Nations Championship.
