Cholera outbreak: Delta LG chair distributes free drugs to communities

In efforts to combat the cholera outbreak in Bomadi Local Government Area, Delta State, the Chairman, Rawlings Andaye, has taken proactive steps by providing free medications to all primary healthcare centers within the council area. The distribution of these drugs was overseen by the Supervisory Councillor for Health, Adaka Amameniye, who emphasized the importance of this initiative in preventing the spread of the disease.

The Chairman’s decision to supply medications to healthcare facilities even before any reported cases demonstrates a commitment to public health. Patients in these facilities will receive free treatment in case of any cholera-related emergencies, as ordered by the council boss.

The Chief Matron at Kpakiama Primary Healthcare Centre, Eunice Edonkumoh, expressed appreciation for the swift action taken by the council chairman. She highlighted the ongoing distribution of free drugs to various healthcare facilities in different communities, stressing the importance of proper hygiene practices to prevent cholera transmission.

Cholera, a water and foodborne disease, has been reported in several communities within the council area. To mitigate the risk of infection, residents are advised to maintain good hygiene habits such as boiling water before consumption, ensuring food is served and eaten hot, washing hands before and after meals, cleaning fruits before eating, and practicing proper hand hygiene after using the toilet.
