CIPMN mandates certification for project managers

The Chartered Institute of Project Managers of Nigeria is committed to ensuring that only certified professionals are authorized to manage projects within the country. This resolve was emphasized by the Registrar of the institute, Henry Mbadiwe, during a recent training and induction event themed “The Digital Project Manager.” Mbadiwe highlighted the legal requirements for certification and licensing, emphasizing that only licensed CIPMN members or licensed project managers are permitted to lead projects in Nigeria.

The institute’s primary objective is to develop local talent and uphold high standards in project delivery. Mbadiwe emphasized the importance of building human capital in Nigeria, promoting proper project delivery practices, and regulating the sector to prevent unqualified individuals from engaging in project management activities.

Despite some progress, Mbadiwe acknowledged the slow pace of government support in the sector. He mentioned collaborations with the Ministry of Trade and Investment and the Industrial Training Fund but noted the need for more substantial support from both the private sector and the government.

Akinola Babalola, the President of the Chartered Institute of Project Managers of Nigeria, reiterated the organization’s dual role as a regulatory body and a professional institute. He emphasized the institute’s responsibility to regulate project management in Nigeria, provide training, and enhance capacity in the field. Babalola also highlighted the importance of incorporating technology into project management practices to keep pace with the evolving digital landscape.
