Addressing the rising issue of drug abuse among young Nigerians, a social club known as Lagoon Palms Aviary has announced a new project. The club is initiating the construction of a rehabilitation center for individuals struggling with drug addiction. The launch event took place during the club’s annual party on Sunday, December 22, 2024, at the Civic Centre in Victoria Island, Lagos.
The gathering was a festive occasion, featuring entertainment led by the lively MC, Gbenga Adeyinka. Attendees participated in informative sessions shedding light on the harmful consequences of drug abuse and excessive drinking among the youth.
In his speech, the Club’s President, Adegoko Oshadipe, underscored the organization’s dedication to community service and social welfare.
He also called on the government to generate employment opportunities and offer incentives to young people, stating, “The government should focus on creating jobs and providing incentives for the youth. We have taken it upon ourselves to reach out to individuals on the streets who are involved in harmful substance use. We are collaborating with various medical professionals and NGOs to rehabilitate these individuals.”
Reflecting on the previous year, Oshadipe expressed appreciation for the club members. “Reviewing the past 12 months, it has been a fulfilling year for our organization. I want to express my gratitude to the executive council and all club members for their unwavering support and confidence in my leadership.”
The Lagos State Police Command spokesperson, Benjamin Hundeyin, who attended the event, expressed the department’s support for the initiative, citing that many crimes are linked to illicit substance abuse.
The event also featured fun activities such as gift exchanges and a lively after-party where attendees danced and enjoyed themselves.
