Commissioner denies ordering shooting of sand miners in Anambra

The Commissioner for Environment in Anambra State, Felix Odimegwu, has refuted claims that he instructed security personnel to shoot and assault illegal sand miners in Ebenator, Nnewi South Local Government Area. Odimegwu clarified that the Operation Clean and Healthy Anambra (OCHA Brigade) operatives were acting on the directives of the state governor to curb unauthorized sand mining. The Commissioner emphasized that proper approval from the governor is required for any sand mining activities in the state. He also addressed the erosion issues in the community and reiterated the government’s commitment to addressing them. Odimegwu assured the public that the situation was under control and there was no need for alarm.
