Consumers in Kaduna are requesting compensation for the frequent collapse of the national grid and the unreliable power supply in the state. The demand was raised during a customers’ complaint summit organized by the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission in Kaduna.
Business representatives from R.H. Plastics Limited expressed frustration over the significant financial losses incurred due to the power outages. They emphasized the importance of consistent power supply for their operations and urged for solutions to prevent future disruptions.
Some customers who are supposed to receive a minimum of 20 hours of electricity per day reported receiving less, affecting their businesses negatively. They called on distribution companies to address the issues promptly.
The Commissioner of Consumer Affairs at the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission clarified that distribution companies are not liable for power outages and grid collapses, stating that compensation is not their responsibility.
The Governor of Kaduna State emphasized the importance of improving power supply to meet the needs of residents, while the Managing Director of Kaduna Electric highlighted the goal of resolving customers’ complaints during the summit.
