The head of the Courier and Logistics Management Institute, Simon Emeje, believes that the courier and logistics industry in Nigeria has the potential to increase the country’s GDP by 60% if fully utilized. Emeje emphasized the need for regulatory excellence and innovation to tap into the industry, which boasts assets exceeding N15tn. He expressed his disappointment at the government’s failure to establish regulations that could drive innovation, investment, and growth in the sector.
Emeje announced that the CLMI International Conference and Investment will take place on November 14, 2024, in Lagos, focusing on the theme “Unlocking Economic Potentials and Fostering Nation-Building through Logistics Instruments.” The event will have Nigeria’s Vice President, Senator Kashim Shettima, as the distinguished special guest of honor.
The executive chairman highlighted the job opportunities within the logistics industry, surpassing those in the oil and gas sector. He stressed the importance of logistics and courier services in driving economic growth, enhancing supply chain efficiency, reducing costs, and increasing competitiveness. Emeje emphasized CLMI’s commitment to supporting the government through policy development and professional training initiatives.
Emeje urged policymakers to acknowledge the sector’s potential and create supportive regulations. He also pointed out the need for skills development within the industry, noting the scarcity of experts available for capacity building and proper training. Emeje emphasized the crucial role of logistics infrastructure in facilitating global trade, economic integration, and national income growth.
