The leader of a certain group has been summoned to appear for a hearing on Monday, February 10, 2025, before Justice Binta Nyako of the Federal High Court, Abuja. This information was contained in a hearing notice dated January 22, 2025, addressed to the leader’s legal representative.
In a previous court session, the leader had requested the case to be moved to a different location if a different judge wasn’t available, apart from Justice Nyako. During the proceedings, the leader had also asked Justice Nyako to step down from the trial, which led to the case being briefly transferred to another judge before returning to Justice Nyako.
The leader has expressed concerns about Justice Nyako presiding over the case after her recusal, and has instructed the legal team to address this issue. The legal representative expressed surprise at the hearing notice and stated they would attend the hearing accordingly.
The notice detailed the case and set the date for the hearing, with a warning to both parties about evidence submission and the consequences of failing to do so. Meanwhile, the leader’s legal counsel reiterated the request to move the case to a High Court in the South-East, citing jurisdictional concerns and the need to prevent any injustice to the defendant.
