Customs hand over 3,365 seized cannabis parcels to NDLEA

The head of Ogun I Area Command, Nigeria Customs Service, Idiroko, Mohammed Shuaibu, emphasized the commitment to combat activities that jeopardize the nation’s economy and security. In a recent event, Shuaibu handed over a significant quantity of narcotics to the state command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, including cannabis and codeine cough syrup. These seizures were part of a larger contraband worth N279,595,038.00 impounded in the state over the past two weeks.

The confiscated items also included foreign rice, second-hand clothing, used tires, and Premium Motor Spirit. The total Duty Paid Value of all seizures amounted to N279,595,038.00, with revenue of N9,694,072 generated from baggage assessment and auction sales of the PMS.

Shuaibu highlighted the command’s efforts to curb the distribution of illegal drugs, emphasizing the health and safety risks they pose to citizens. He sent a stern warning to individuals involved in unlawful activities, assuring continued dedication from the Ogun I Command to prevent such enterprises within their jurisdiction.

Acknowledging the teamwork between the customs and NDLEA, the NDLEA State Commander, Tijani Rabe, praised the collaborative efforts in combating drug trafficking. Rabe commended the vigilance of the customs officers and urged them to persist in the fight against drug peddlers nationwide.
