The Labour Party’s leadership has expressed disdain towards the six lawmakers who defected from the party, deeming them as insignificant and dispensable. They referred to these politicians as opportunists who rode on the promises of the party for their own gain.
Both the National Secretary and National Legal Adviser of the Labour Party indicated that the absence of these lawmakers would not be mourned. The party has taken legal action to declare their seats vacant and demand the repayment of all salaries and allowances they have received.
The defection of these lawmakers to the All Progressives Congress was met with criticism from the Labour Party’s leadership. They accused the defectors of prioritizing personal benefits over party ideology and criticized their lack of contribution to the party’s growth.
The Labour Party officials expressed regret for not taking disciplinary actions against erring members earlier and blamed the defectors for creating internal conflicts within the party. They emphasized that the defectors would face challenges in securing APC tickets for future elections due to their lack of performance and loyalty.
In response to the defections, the APC urged caution, warning that a mass exodus of politicians could weaken the opposition. They emphasized the importance of fostering party ideology and discouraging frequent party-switching for the stability of the political landscape in Nigeria.
