The Delta State Government has given the go-ahead for a proposed budget of N936 billion for the year 2025 to be reviewed and approved by the State House of Assembly. The announcement was made by the state Commissioner for Economic Planning during a briefing after the State Executive Council meeting presided over by the Governor.
The budget breakdown includes N587.4 billion for Capital Expenditure, which makes up 62.75 percent, and N348.7 billion for Recurrent Expenditure, representing 37.25 percent. The budget is based on an exchange rate of N1,300 per dollar.
The focus areas of the proposed budget include agriculture, support for small businesses, youth empowerment, tourism, infrastructure, healthcare, and education. It is emphasized that the budget will be funded organically without resorting to borrowing.
Several infrastructure projects have been approved, including road rehabilitations and constructions in different local government areas. The council also confirmed key appointments and directed strict oversight on project execution to maintain high standards.
The aim is to ensure that all approved projects are completed satisfactorily, with no tolerance for substandard work. The council further approved various road constructions and infrastructure projects to boost economic development across the state.
Additionally, the council sanctioned the construction of a Model Secondary School and an access road to Nigeria Maritime University to enhance connectivity and development in the region. The community members are optimistic about the governor’s commitment to their welfare and progress.
