Dinamo Zagreb appoint Ballon d’Or winner, Cannavaro, coach

Dinamo Zagreb, a top-tier Croatian club, has recently appointed former Italian international player Fabio Cannavaro as their new head coach. The announcement was made through an official statement released by the club. Cannavaro, known for his successful career as a defender with clubs like Juventus and Real Madrid, notably won the 2006 World Cup with the Italian national team and was honored with the Ballon d’Or the same year.

Currently, Dinamo Zagreb holds the third position in the HNL league with 29 points, trailing behind Rijeka and Hajduk Split. The decision to bring in Cannavaro was influenced by the team’s underwhelming performance in the domestic league, as stated by the club’s CEO, Zvonimir Manenica. The management believes that Cannavaro’s leadership and expertise can help elevate the team’s standing and performance in both domestic and European competitions.

Cannavaro is set to join the team officially on January 3, 2025, and his first challenge will be an anticipated Champions League match against Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium in London on January 22. The club is optimistic about the potential for growth and success under Cannavaro’s guidance, aiming to achieve better results and strengthen their position in the league and beyond.
