A member of the House of Representatives, Oluwole Oke, has congratulated the newly appointed Acting Inspector-General of Police, Tunji Disu, describing his appointment as a well-deserved recognition of professionalism, integrity and distinguished service.
Oke, who represents Obokun/Oriade Federal Constituency of Osun State, said Disu’s career profile and operational experience make him well-suited to lead the Nigeria Police Force at a time the country requires strategic reforms and improved public confidence in policing.
According to a statement issued by the media unit of the lawmaker’s office in Abuja on Friday, Disu’s track record in law enforcement, operational excellence and dedication to national security positions him to drive effective intelligence-led policing and strengthen internal discipline within the Force.
Oke expressed optimism that the new police chief would enhance professionalism, improve officer accountability and deepen collaboration between security agencies and communities to address security challenges across the country.
He also called on Nigerians to support the new police leadership in its efforts to maintain peace and public safety.
“Your appointment brings renewed hope for a safer Nigeria. We are confident, upon confirmation, that your tenure will strengthen professionalism and restore greater public confidence in policing,” Oke stated.
The lawmaker further wished the Acting IGP a successful tenure marked by impactful reforms and measurable improvements in national security.
Online reports that President Bola Tinubu, earlier in the week, appointed Disu as Acting Inspector-General of Police to lead the Force pending confirmation in line with established procedures.
Disu, a seasoned officer with decades of policing experience, has held several strategic operational and administrative positions, including leadership roles in tactical units, intelligence operations and high-profile state commands.
He is widely regarded within security circles for his emphasis on discipline, technology-driven policing and community engagement.
His appointment comes at a time when the Federal Government is prioritising reforms aimed at strengthening internal security, improving public trust and enhancing the operational capacity of law enforcement agencies to tackle emerging threats such as violent crime, kidnapping and organised criminal networks.
Security stakeholders have described the leadership transition as part of ongoing efforts by the Tinubu administration to reposition the police for greater efficiency, professionalism and responsiveness to the country’s evolving security needs.
