E-border surveillance system yielding results, says interior minister

A new e-border surveillance system launched by the Minister of Interior has proven effective in enhancing border security and combating irregular migration.

The system, inaugurated on December 14, 2024, at a technology innovation complex, aims to improve security measures at the borders.

According to a statement from the minister, the technology has shown significant progress and has helped in identifying and apprehending individuals of interest.

The integration of INTERPOL data and national security databases has greatly increased the capability to detect and respond to border threats.

Within a short period of operation, the system has successfully flagged and detained individuals with criminal backgrounds or suspicious behavior.

The e-border surveillance system has been effective in addressing illegal migration, a persistent challenge for Nigeria’s border security, by utilizing advanced automation and monitoring tools for real-time surveillance.

The Nigeria Immigration Service has deployed these advanced solutions at numerous crossing points nationwide, allowing for seamless identification and interception of persons of interest.
