The Edo State Government has set a 72-hour deadline for the return of government vehicles in possession of Asue Ighodalo, a candidate from the Peoples Democratic Party in the recent governorship election, and other party supporters. Kelly Okungbowa, the Chairman of the Government Assets Recovery Committee appointed by Governor Monday Okpebholo, issued the ultimatum to recover government assets like vehicles from private individuals.
Okpebholo established the committee to retrieve government assets, including vehicles, reportedly held by private individuals. Okungbowa highlighted that vehicles from the former government transport company, Edo Line, were allegedly sold and found in a spare parts market in Benin City. He emphasized the importance of returning these vehicles to the government, as they belong to the state and its people.
The committee urged identified individuals, including PDP candidate Asue Ighodalo, to return the vehicles and emphasized that the recovered vehicles would be reallocated to government agencies. The committee stressed that their actions were in accordance with the law and not intended to target anyone, but to ensure compliance with due process.
Names of officials from the previous administration allegedly still possessing government vehicles were listed, with a 72-hour deadline given for the return of these vehicles. Failure to comply would result in necessary actions being taken by the government.
