Edo NLC debunks allegations of labour house raid by state govt

The Edo State Council of the Nigeria Labour Congress has refuted claims made by its national secretariat regarding an alleged forceful entry and ransacking of the Edo State Labour House by the state government. The council, through a statement signed by its Acting State Chairman and Acting State Secretary, termed the accusations as untrue, deceptive, and lacking in merit.

According to the council, there was no instance where law enforcement officers were used to gain unauthorized access to the Labour House. They clarified that the presence of police officers, as shown in a video shared by a former chairman, was requested by the congress leadership to protect the building and its assets.

The statement emphasized the amicable relationship between the Edo State Government and various labor unions, including the NLC. It highlighted recent discussions between the state government and labor representatives to address issues surrounding the implementation of the minimum wage. The Edo State Government asserted its commitment to upholding peaceful relations with labor unions and disclaimed any involvement in destructive actions or threats against labor organizations or their properties.

The Edo NLC called on the national secretariat to demand proof from the individual making the claims and cautioned against baseless allegations that could harm the positive rapport between the state government and the labor sector.
