The Inter-Party Advisory Council has emphasized the importance of viewing the Edo State governorship election as a democratic process rather than a conflict. The council highlighted the significance of selecting leaders who will uphold good governance, accountability, and development.
In a statement, the National Chairman of IPAC urged all stakeholders to prioritize peace, equity, and justice throughout the election. He emphasized the need for collaboration among stakeholders to ensure a conducive environment for a fair and credible electoral process.
Stressing that elections are not battles but essential components of democracy, the chairman called on stakeholders to respect democratic principles, uphold the rights of others, and focus on the best interests of the people of Edo State and Nigeria as a whole. He encouraged voters to exercise their civic duty without interference and to base their choices on candidates’ manifestos, past performances, and leadership qualities.
IPAC also warned against the influence of vote-buying, stating that it undermines the integrity of democracy. The council reminded voters that their will is paramount and should be honored, as the essence of democracy lies in the people’s power to elect their leaders.
Furthermore, the IPAC chairman appealed to the Independent National Electoral Commission and security agencies to maintain neutrality and impartiality, emphasizing the crucial role they play in upholding the trust and confidence of the electorate.
