Edo Poll: INEC counts votes, not prayers, ex-PFN president tells Christians

An ex-national president of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria, Reverend Felix Omobude, has urged the residents of Edo State, especially Christians, to actively participate in the upcoming election. He emphasized that votes, not prayers, are what count according to the Independent National Electoral Commission.

Omobude stressed the importance of using Permanent Voter’s Cards to engage in the democratic process and choose a leader in the governorship election slated for September 21. He called for the selection of a reputable candidate, highlighting democracy’s role in empowering citizens to make informed decisions.

The reverend encouraged Edo people to showcase their political awareness and resist pressure from political influencers. He advised voters to assess candidates’ backgrounds and vote based on credibility and merit, while also praying for a peaceful electoral process.

In a public address, Omobude stated, “Fellow citizens of Edo State, I extend greetings to you all. Democracy grants us the chance to have a say in our governance. This opportunity is at our doorstep, and as a community of faith, we pray for good governance, progress, and harmony.

“It is noteworthy that while our prayers are essential, what matters to INEC are the votes cast. Therefore, I urge those without voter’s cards to register and make use of this democratic privilege.”

He continued, “Let’s demonstrate our political acumen and stand firm against intimidation. Vote based on your principles and beliefs.

“We need to select a capable candidate who can propel the state forward.”
