Edo: Transition committee meeting stalls over document disputes

The Edo State Joint Transition Committee faced obstacles during their meeting as disagreements arose over crucial documents required for the session. This committee comprises members from the outgoing administration of the current Governor and the Governor-elect.

During the initial session, the Secretary to the State Government commended the outgoing Governor for maintaining transparent financial records and pledged to provide all necessary records to the transition committee led by Dr. Pius Odubu.

However, the meeting on Tuesday saw minimal government committee staff present, with the absence of APC members. The Secretary of the APC transition committee mentioned that they had requested advance copies of documents to be provided 24 hours before any meeting, which was not met by the documents supplied by the opposing team.

The APC committee emphasized that their requests align with global standard practices and involve inquiries on various financial and operational aspects. They expressed dissatisfaction with the documents presented by the outgoing government, stating that the submissions did not meet their expectations.

In response, the Commissioner for Communication and Orientation defended the outgoing government’s focus on showcasing their achievements rather than addressing inquiries beyond the transition process. He highlighted that the handover notes of the governor would contain additional details sought by the APC committee.

Overall, the transition committee’s main role is to facilitate the smooth transition of power by presenting accomplishments and pending tasks, ensuring a comprehensive handover process.
