The Edo State Government recently expressed concern over incidents involving political thugs attempting to infiltrate Independent National Electoral Commission offices in various local government councils within the state. The government acknowledged the efforts of the military in thwarting the suspected political thugs who were trying to take control of the INEC office in Oredo Local Government Area, the state’s capital.
During a press briefing in Benin, the Edo State Commissioner for Communication and Orientation, Chris Nehikhare, highlighted the worrisome trend of political thugs trying to disrupt the operations of INEC offices in different local government councils like Oredo, Etsako West, and Esan West.
Nehikhare commended the military for their swift response in preventing the thugs from overrunning the INEC facility in Oredo. He urged the military to maintain vigilance in all 17 LGAs to ensure the protection of the electoral process. Emphasizing the resilience of the people of Edo, Nehikhare encouraged them to participate in the electoral process without fear, assuring them of the military’s presence to safeguard both the people and the INEC facilities.
