EFCC arrests Kano TikToker, Murja Kunya, for alleged Naira abuse

The Kano State Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has apprehended an individual known for their influence on TikTok, on suspicion of misusing Nigerian currency. The arrest was made due to the TikToker allegedly engaging in the act of spraying Naira notes for entertainment while staying at a hotel in the state.

The spokesperson for the anti-graft agency released a statement confirming the arrest and subsequent actions taken by the EFCC. The individual in question had previously been arrested in January 2025 for contravening the Central Bank of Nigeria CBN Act, which prohibits the abuse and defacement of the Naira. Despite being granted administrative bail, the TikTok influencer evaded legal proceedings by skipping a scheduled court appearance.

After an extensive investigation, EFCC operatives successfully located and re-arrested the individual in March 2025. The TikToker is currently in custody at the Kano Zonal Directorate of the Commission awaiting further legal processes.

The EFCC emphasizes its dedication to upholding laws safeguarding the integrity of the Nigerian currency and warns against any form of abuse, such as spraying, stamping, or defacing the currency during social gatherings.
