At the Federal High Court in Abuja, the trial of a former Kogi State governor on alleged fraud charges resumed, with the presence of operatives from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). The operatives, armed with various weapons, blocked a major road leading to the court complex with a vehicle. Additionally, dogs and other security measures were deployed at the court entrance, causing discomfort among some lawyers who questioned the heavy security presence.
The former governor had previously been granted bail in the sum of N500 million with two sureties in like sum after pleading not guilty to 19-count charges of alleged money laundering involving N80.2 billion. The defense team, led by Joseph Daudu, SAN, is facing off against the EFCC legal team headed by Kemi Pinheiro, SAN, before Justice Emeka Nwite.
