EFCC probes vessel seized by Navy for illegal oil bunkering

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has initiated an investigation into a vessel intercepted by Nigerian Navy Ship NNS FORMOSSO in Brass, Bayelsa State, carrying 200 liters of suspected illegally refined Automotive Gas Oil.

In a statement released by the Commission, it was revealed that operatives from the Port Harcourt Zonal Directorate of the EFCC are looking into the vessel named Bravo Alero, believed to be associated with oil theft in the Niger Delta region. The vessel was seized by the Nigerian Navy and handed over to the EFCC for further investigation and possible prosecution.

Captain Ifeanyichukwu Mabeokwu of FORMOSO expressed gratitude to the EFCC and expressed confidence in the Commission’s ability to conduct a thorough investigation and take appropriate legal action. He also pledged continued collaboration with the EFCC in combating illegal oil bunkering in the Niger Delta region.

Chief Superintendent Shittu Babatunde of the EFCC, who received the vessel on behalf of the Commission, assured the Navy of a swift and professional handling of the case.
