A prominent Nigerian businessman, in an interview with Bloomberg, expressed his belief that a recent visit by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission to his company’s office was meant to shame them. The anti-graft commission’s visit was part of a larger investigation into alleged preferential treatment in forex allocations to his company and 51 others. Despite these challenges, the businessman emphasized that their operations remain above board and play a vital role in Nigeria’s economy. He highlighted his company’s reputation as a major taxpayer in the country and refuted any accusations of wrongdoing. The businessman’s company had already complied with the EFCC’s requests for documents, questioning the need for the unexpected office visit. Prior to this incident, the company had denied involvement in any forex malpractices or money laundering, citing past approvals from the Central Bank of Nigeria for legitimate projects across Africa.
