The Ekiti State Government is dedicated to empowering individuals with disabilities through vocational training, aiming to help them achieve self-reliance and economic independence. Dr. Ebenezer Ogunlade, Chairman of the Office of Disability Affairs, reaffirmed this commitment during a graduation ceremony at the Skill Acquisition Centre in Ilokun, Ado-Ekiti. The ceremony celebrated the graduation of 40 persons with disabilities who received training in various skills such as shoe making, ICT, cosmetology, catering, tailoring, and fashion designing.
Ogunlade encouraged the graduates to focus on their abilities and pursue their career aspirations with confidence. He highlighted the government’s focus on inclusivity and skill development through such empowerment programs. The beneficiaries were provided with tools and equipment to kickstart their chosen vocations.
Princess Adetoun Agboola, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Special Education and Social Inclusion, announced a financial assistance program for the beneficiaries in January 2025. She advised the graduates to make the most of their training and tools for their intended purposes. Additionally, Toyin Ojo, Chairman of Ado Central Local Council Development Area, pledged to implement similar empowerment initiatives in his constituency.
Some of the beneficiaries, including Mr. Ife Abejide and Mrs. Ruth Fasoranti, expressed gratitude to the state government for the transformative opportunities they received.
