The Enugu State Ministry of Transport has refuted claims that officers from its Vehicle Inspection Unit were responsible for the death of a Tricycle (Keke) rider. The ministry’s Public Relations Officer clarified that the viral video alleging the involvement of VIO officials in the incident is false.
The incident in question occurred when a tricycle driver was stopped at WAEC Junction for a traffic offense by VIO officials. The driver attempted to evade authorities, resulting in an accident where the tricycle overturned, causing injuries to the VIO official present.
Authorities swiftly responded to the scene, only to find that the tricycle driver had feigned being injured but had fled the scene as soon as the VIO official was taken to the hospital. The Chief Vehicle Inspection Officer confirmed that the VIO official sustained injuries and is currently receiving medical treatment.
It was emphasized that the driver’s non-compliance led to the unfortunate incident, and the public was urged to dismiss false information circulating on social media about the event. The importance of obeying traffic laws and cooperating with law enforcement agencies was emphasized to prevent such incidents in the future.
