The Equatorial Guinea government has taken legal action against Baltasar Engonga, the former Director General of the National Financial Investigation Agency, for his involvement in a sex tape scandal. The government expressed that Engonga’s behavior goes against the moral values of Equatorial Guinean society. Through the Minister of Information, Press, and Culture, Jerónimo Osa Osa, the government announced its decision to thoroughly investigate the actions of Engonga.
Following the circulation of videos showing Engonga engaging in sexual activities with multiple women, some of whom were married, the government denounced these acts as a breach of ethical and moral standards. Legal proceedings were initiated against Engonga and his associates by the Public Prosecutor’s Office to ensure accountability under the law.
The government emphasized the importance of distinguishing between personal and private matters, consent, privacy violations, and the impact on individuals’ reputations. The scandal involving Engonga, which included recordings of encounters with prominent individuals, led to the government’s decision to install surveillance cameras in key locations to prevent inappropriate behavior.
In response to the scandal, officials involved were suspended, and Vice-President Teodoro Mangue warned of sanctions for any official caught engaging in inappropriate conduct at work. This move was deemed necessary to uphold the code of conduct within the government.
