At an event in Abuja, General Christopher Musa, the Chief of Defence Staff, has denied reports suggesting that Nigeria has authorized any foreign nation, including France, to establish a military base within its borders. He clarified that President Bola Tinubu’s recent visit to France, where various agreements were signed, did not involve discussions about foreign military bases in Nigeria.
During the unveiling of the Armed Forces of Nigeria 2025 Tattoo Logo, General Musa emphasized that President Tinubu’s agreements with France centered on trade, culture, tradition, cooperation, and the economy, with no provision for foreign military bases. He assured that Nigeria’s sovereignty would not be compromised by allowing foreign military installations in any part of the country.
General Musa noted that while Nigeria engages in joint training programs and officer exchanges with other countries as part of global military cooperation, the establishment of foreign military bases is not part of the president’s agenda. He emphasized the importance of setting the record straight on this matter.
