The immediate-past Speaker of Osun State House of Assembly, Timothy Owoeye, has urged the leadership of the All Progressives Congress to zone the 2026 governorship ticket of the party to Osun West Senatorial District.
Owoeye made the appeal on Thursday at the unveiling of the Ambo Movement, a group of volunteers canvassing support for the Managing Director of the National Inland Waterways Authority, Mr Bola Oyebamiji, in the governorship race.
The ex-speaker, while addressing the gathering, said the leadership qualities of the immediate-past governor and Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, had been key to the peace the party was enjoying in the state.
Owoeye said he joined the clamour for the governorship ticket of the APC to move to the West senatorial district to salvage Osun from the shackles of retrogression.
Osun West Senatorial District covers the local government areas of Ayedaade, Aiyedire, Ede North, Ede South, Egbedore, Ejigbo, Irewole, Isokan, Iwo, and Ola Oluwa.
The current governor, Ademola Adeleke, of the Peoples Democratic Party, is from Osun West.
“I commend our leader and current Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, for his resilience, commitment, determination and avowed dedication to advance the cause of the main opposition party in the state.
“We commend him for holding forth in keeping the party together. If not for him, what we are doing today may not be possible, because we noticed the unity, cohesion and togetherness within the party that is why we are here today.
“This is another opportunity for us to raise the consciousness of our people to the need to work in unison for the success of our party.
“As we are ready to return to government, it is pivotal to zone our governorship ticket to Osun West Senatorial District in the interest of fairness, equity and justice,” Owoeye said.
He added that the call to zone governorship ticket to Osun West was borne out of the need for justice, equity and fairness.
“We all know that Osun Central Senatorial District has done it for 16 years, Osun East spent eight years and it is now the turn of Osun West.
“The best choice is Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji. The choice is noble and painstaking,” Owoeye said.
The founder of the Falex Foundation, Dr Tunde Faleye, who is the initiator of the Ambo Movement, called on the people to support efforts to get a strong candidate for the APC in the next Osun governorship poll.
He further said, “We are using this opportunity to let the people know that on our own, we are supporting Oyebamiji to run for governor.
“He has the capability, competence and capacity to steer the ship of the state to the promised land.
“It is time for every member of our party to work together in wresting power from the incumbent government.”
