FAAN unveils equipment to tackle bird strikes at airports

The Managing Director of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria recently unveiled the International Civil Aviation Organisation Wildlife Hazard Control Equipment to address the issue of bird strikes at airports in the country. The inauguration took place at the Murtala Muhammed Airport in Lagos.

In a bid to combat the threat of bird strikes, the FAAN team recognized the importance of upgrading their equipment. The Director of Airport Operations, speaking on behalf of the Managing Director, emphasized the need to enhance equipment to ensure air safety in the face of wildlife hazards.

The newly acquired equipment, received from ICAO, will be distributed to various airports across Nigeria to effectively mitigate wildlife hazards. The FAAN team highlighted the potential dangers posed by bird strikes, citing instances where such incidents have caused disruptions and damages to aircraft engines.

Although the exact cost of the equipment was not disclosed, it was stated to be worth millions of naira. This proactive measure aims to safeguard air travel operations and prevent potential risks associated with wildlife encounters.
