Recent rumors circulating on social media about the death of the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Prof Mahmood Yakubu, have been debunked by the commission itself.
A statement released by Yakubu’s Chief Press Secretary, Rotimi Oyekanmi, clarified that the Chairman is alive, well, and in good health, urging the public to disregard the false information that claimed Yakubu had passed away in a London hospital.
The commission emphasized that Prof. Yakubu has not traveled to London in the past two years, citing his recent presence at official meetings and events as proof of his well-being and activity.
INEC expressed disappointment over the recurrence of such fake news, stressing the negative impact it has on individuals and society. The commission urged caution and responsibility in sharing information to avoid causing unwarranted harm.
