A sad incident occurred when a middle-aged individual lost their life after being hit by a broadcast mast at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium. The mast fell during a heavy breeze before a downpour, disrupting a planned praise night event celebrating Governor Monday Okpebholo’s 100 days in office.
The victim, identified as a driver for a decorator, was fatally struck by the falling mast while attempting to rescue his boss’s decorating materials. An anonymous police officer at the scene mentioned that the strong breeze caused the tragic accident.
Describing the scene, the officer stated, “We were gathered at the stadium awaiting the start of the praise night when the mast collapsed, resulting in the man’s immediate death. It was a gruesome sight as his head was severely injured.”
The officer added, “He was reportedly the driver for the decorator present at the venue. Following the rain, most individuals had to leave the stadium.”
Efforts to reach the Edo State Police Command spokesperson for confirmation were unsuccessful as calls to his number went unanswered.
