Farotimi: Be guided by facts, pro-Babalola group tells Afenifere

The Justice for Afe Babalola Legacy group has called on the Yoruba socio-political organization, Afenifere, to carefully consider the ongoing defamation case involving activist lawyer Dele Farotimi and the founder of Afe Babalola University, Ado Ekiti, Aare Afe Babalola (SAN).

Farotimi’s book, Nigeria and Its Criminal Justice System, alleged that Afe Babalola had corrupted the Supreme Court, leading to a legal dispute. Farotimi was arrested and charged in an Ekiti State Chief Magistrate’s Court, awaiting a ruling on his bail application.

Afenifere National Caucus visited Farotimi at the Ado Ekiti Correctional Centre, criticizing the denial of bail and emphasizing that the charges were bailable. The group plans to determine their next steps after the court’s decision on December 20.

Meanwhile, a spokesperson for the pro-Babalola group maintained the validity of the defamation claims against Farotimi, stressing the importance of a judicial resolution. The group expressed confidence in the legal process and refrained from making further comments on the matter.

Dismissing Afenifere’s statements about potential actions post-ruling, the group remains focused on upholding justice and ensuring a fair legal process for all parties involved. They expressed disappointment over public misrepresentations of the case and reaffirmed their dedication to upholding Aare Afe Babalola’s legacy.

The group’s convener highlighted the significance of the case, noting its importance in the Nigerian legal landscape and expressing confidence in a just and impartial judicial outcome.
